it's hilarious to watch how quickly people are to jump on the cliff bandwagon. not meaning to single you out truckin. don't fret, you're far from being the only one. it's highly amusing though. many are scared to voice their opinion, for fear of being ridiculed, until the great cliff speaks. but once he voices his opinion, it sure is easy to say, "oh, i agree with cliff!" trying to score brownie points, or what?

Or perhaps Cliff has posted here for many years and has taken the time to give very detailed ratings of shows, using the Robert Parker wine scale methodology, [http://www.erobertparker.com/info/legend.asp], as well as numerous top 10 lists and other breakdowns (check out his Europe 72 posts), so that he has gained credibility with many because when it comes to the GD it's obvious that he knows what the fuck he is talking about and doesn't post just to post and draw attention to himself. Also, his disdain for the many shows he attended is well known and, frankly, kind of sad to me since I saw many shows I'd never want to hear again but had a great time. But hey, he's right - mid-80s' Dead can't begin to hold a candle to what came before.

Lastly, just for his "more shows" foray into filmmaking, he deserves slack from snot-nosed posers just looking to stir the pot. If you can't take the shit you so richedly deserve, stop posting. However, methinks (!) that you want the attention because it fills a void in your otherwise meaningless existence...

it's not that i really want the attention, i just don't mind it. i understand that my conduct and attitude is going to prompt a fair amount of attention. it's always been that way. i'm opinionated, i stand up for myself, and aren't afraid to speak my mind. this is bound to bring some amount of attention and controversy, and i'm used to it, and perfectly fine with it as well. i'm just being myself here, and have no need to fish for attention on an internet forum, but i can see how you might have arrived at that conclusion.

i don't think you need to defend cliff, as i was criticizing his little minions. i have a great amount of respect for most of cliff's contributions here. his musical insight is one of the main aspects that drew me to this place. i tend to agree with most of his musical assessments, and actually value his musical opinions more than anyone here other than lightintoashes.

I just love the sage advice and critiques from a twenty four year old. I wish your parents wouldn't let you use their computer.

Actually, my friend, I'm on my own bandwagon. I was just being playful. But seriously...I'm only the piano player, don't shoot me. Again though, I do enjoy the music the produced in 1987. I've broken my own vow and have posted a few times since the boards were taken down in '06 because it got ugly in here. Other than the lame Aussie shit, I dig your insights.

i appreciate your calm, collected demeanor. most people would blow up if i said that shit in reply to their post. like i said, i didn't intend to single you out. my comments were mostly directed towards at some others who i won't name (if anybody thinks i might be referring to them, you're one of them!)

i LOVE '87. there is clearly a renewed spark in the band at this point, which you can almost solely attribute to jerry. and that spark carries on for the most part through may of '90, minus a few rough patches. the centrum run (4/2 - 4/4) has some of the most smokin' hot post-hiatus playing i've ever heard.

Look man, I really dig '87 because sometimes I DON'T have the time for 38 mins of Dark Star at Rotterdam. But, I need my Dead fix. It's also part of the reason why I listen to so much '71. I never use words like "greatest" or "best ever" I just know what I like. If it opens the "forum gods" to besmirch me, then fine. Whatever man. Music, like food and baseball are subjective things and I will never diss someone for their tastes. Rock on with your bad self, but do me a favor and stick to the music. Isn't that why we are all here?

i hear ya on the song length aspect. ever since i stopped listening to the dead for the last 19 hours, i've realized how much more music i'm able to listen to in the same amount of time. i can practically listen to a whole album, in place of one version of dark star!

"Rock on with your bad self, but do me a favor and stick to the music. Isn't that why we are all here?"

unfortunately, many seem to be here for everything but the music. i'm surely not one of them, as i'm sure you've seen me preach to some of those people by now. i do get sidetracked at times, but 99% of the reason i'm here is for the music.

I preach to no one. Look, if '69 is your gig, or '77 or even 1994 I don't judge. Personally, I love all years and if you get a chance check out 3/27/94. It may not be your cup of tea but I dig it. The thing I love about the Grateful Dead, is that is a life long undertaking and whatever you like, is what you like. Once again, I never use the adjectives "greatest" or "best ever" we like what we like. It's all personal.

A side note, I really love the 1st set from 11/1/85, but then again I love 2/2/68. Does it really matter? My favorite show is the one I am listening to at the time. The Grateful Dead is like a Picasso painting, you dig it or you don't
